You ever think we’re in the “bad universe”? Like, maybe somewhere out there in the infinite void of time is a version of us that is perfect in every way and our favorite baseball team never loses? In an infinite number of universes Ken Harrelson Jersey, the 2021 Cleveland Guardians are probably undefeated somewhere right now. What about another universe that is less extreme, but Cleveland and sure, the Twins aren’t on the fringes of playoff contention at best? What a fun series preview this would be the predicted three-team race between Cleveland, Minnesota, and Chicago all coming down the wire with a series of pivotal matchups in September and into October. Think about it. Staff ace and uninjured Cy Young contender Shane Bieber going up against Jose Berrios. Guardians outfielder Joey Gallo on pace to break the home run record. Somehow George Valera already debuted and is a shoo-in for Rookie of the Year. The Royals are 7-129 after requiring Eric Hosmer in the offseason. There’s no chip shortage and I can actually buy a damn Xbox Series X Satchel Paige Jersey. All I’m saying is I have dreams, and somewhere out there they are probably true. The real Guardians aren’t too shabby right now either, though. They’ve been wildly inconsistent this season as injuries have exposed their limited depth, but they’ve won six of their last 10 and made a competitive series against the Red Sox. They’re 8.5 games back of the closest playoff spot, but at least they aren’t the Twins.Where Cleveland’s season has been a tremendous disappointment in terms of a lot of things, Minnesota’s has been an outright disaster. They currently sit at 59-77, bottom of the AL Central, and one of the worst teams in all of baseball. Nelson Cruz, Hansel Robles, J.A. Happ, and José Berríos were all traded at the deadline, Byron Buxton’s hot start was cut short by injuries and they are left wondering what to do with their supposed window to win over the next few years. This four-game set is the penultimate series between these two teams https://www.clevelandfanshop.com/132-Indians_Cameron_Hill_Jersey. They wrap up with a three-gamer next week. He’s set a new career-high with 26 home runs and if his 126 wRC+ holds it would be the highest of his career as well. He leads the Twins with seven hits over the last week.3B, Luis Arráez - Luis Arráez’s approach is unique in today’s game not a lot of walks or strikeouts, just a lot of contact and he’s struggled at times to make it work this year as he looks to recapture the magic that made him so good in his rookie 2019 campaign.

A little over a week ago, our own Andres Chavez composed a list of the three most indispensable players on the Yankees’ roster. The names listed were Jonathan Loáisiga, Aaron Judge, and Gerrit Cole. Andres spelled out the fact that without these players healthy and performing, the Yankees would be in dire straits. Just days later, it’s safe to say that Andres couldn’t have been any more correct.Let’s start with Loáisiga. He last pitched on September 3 before hitting the injured list with a right shoulder strain. I can’t stress enough how important he’s been for the Yankees out of the bullpen this season https://www.newyorkystore.com/43-Yankees_David_Wells_Jersey. He leads all major league relievers with 2.2 fWAR and has thrown the third-most innings in the American League out of the ‘pen with 68.0. In his absence, the Yankees now lack the high-leverage option that Loáisiga represented. Since he’s been on the shelf, the New York bullpen owns a 6.85 ERA, which, in simpler terms, is 17 earned runs in 22.1 innings. That’s not going to win you games. In fact, the last time the Yankees won a baseball game was also the last time Loáisiga was on the mound. He’s the team’s bullpen ace and without him https://www.newyorkystore.com/17-Yankees_T_shirts, Aaron Boone has to find someone else to step into his role for an extended period of time. With the postseason rapidly approaching and the Yanks barely clinging onto a Wild Card spot, they need to get things straightened out behind the starting rotation. Until then, the Yankees have to cross their fingers that Loáisiga can return as soon as possible.Speaking of aces, Gerrit Cole exited his most recent start very abruptly as he had to call it quits due to left hamstring tightness. The team doesn’t seem to be extremely concerned about it, but he may need to miss a start or more. Obviously, losing the AL Cy Young frontrunner is never what you want, especially now that the team is on an extensive losing streak and slipping down in the Wild Card standings. If Cole does miss his next start or two , he may be replaced with the likes of Andrew Heaney, who is, well, not particularly good. Andres listed Cole has the No https://www.newyorkystore.com/4-Yankees_New_York_Yankees. 1 player the Yankees couldn’t lose to injury. With the Wild Card Game just under a month away, Cole needs to be healthy in order to help the Yankees advance to the ALDS. If he’s not, you’re looking at one of Jordan Montgomery, Nestor Cortes Jr., Corey Kluber, or Jameson Taillon on the bump for the Yanks in a win or go home game, as opposed to one of the most talented pitchers on the planet. Finally, the last person to cover on the list is Aaron Judge. We know he’s not injured, but he’s currently in the worst slump of his season. He was in an 0-for-22 skid before reaching on an infield single in Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays, and has just three hits in the month of September. So while No. 99 isn’t hurt DJ LeMahieu Jersey, he’s not helping the team at the plate much. That especially hurts when the Yankees have one extra-base hit in their last 30 innings and four total runs scored in their last three games. They own a 1.5 game lead for the second Wild Card spot and are only one game up in the loss column from the Red Sox and Blue Jays. The offense has gone missing not only of late but pretty much the whole season. New York is averaging 4.3 runs per game this season, which is 20th in MLB and the fifth-worst in the American League. The only AL teams worse? The Mariners, Royals, Orioles, and Rangers. Not a good look for the Yankees—who were American League favorites before the season. With Jonathan Loáisiga and Gerrit Cole both injured and Aaron Judge performing at a level that he doesn’t normally play at, the Yankees are nowhere near guaranteed a playoff berth as their three most indispensable players on the entire roster are going through hardships at the same time. The “next man up” has been a saying for a few seasons now, and it seems like it has to continue this year if the Yankees want to make noise by the season’s end.

Martín Maldonado is needlessly being leaned on again. After he started more than 76 percent of the regular season games in 2020, the Astros backstop is still receiving 70-plus percent of the starts at catcher in 2021.Despite Maldonado’s non-existent offensive production this season, he continues to draw the vast majority of the starts behind the plate 15 in 21 games since the All-Star Break.Last year’s on-base percentage of .350 has predictably regressed to its usual sub-.300 figure, and there is no longer an inadequate backup behind Maldonado on the depth chart. The Astros signed the offensive-minded, left-handed hitting Jason Castro in January to complement Maldonado’s defensive prowess.Considering what’s transpired this season, however, it’s past time that Castro be given the opportunity to be the everyday starter, or at least be granted equal playing time. Dusty Baker has seldom exploited the righty-lefty catching platoon that general manager James Click gave him Jose Altuve Jersey, and at this point it’s to the detriment of the team. For all of Maldonado’s renowned skill and savvy behind the dish, his bat is one of the worst in baseball. And though his defense has been highly regarded for many years, it’s fair to question if it’s still good enough to compensate for an abysmal 71 Weighted Runs Created Plus .According to Defensive Runs Saved , the 34-year-old veteran is exactly average. Per FanGraphs’ DefWAR, he is the 13th-most valuable defensive catcher in the bigs. Baseball Prospectus’ comprehensive, catcher-specific metric Catcher Defensive Adjustment ranks Maldonado in the middle of the pack among starting catchers. The one area of Maldonado’s game that remains strong is his ability to thwart base stealers, as he’s thrown out more than half of them. Perhaps this would be more significant 5 to 10 years ago, but in this current era of baseball, stealing bases is not commonplace, thus diluting one of Maldonado’s best traits. As for Castro, the simple fact is he finds himself in the same conundrum that Chas McCormick had been in for much of the season Yuli Gurriel Jersey. Despite having less than half the amount of plate appearances, Castro’s Baseball-Reference War of 0.4 is nearly the same as Maldonado’s .Castro’s .187 batting average may not inspire confidence, but a .326 OBP and a 91 wRC+ are markedly better than his teammate’s. And, the small sample size notwithstanding, the wide discrepancy in Castro’s wOBA and Expected wOBA indicate the former first-round pick has been quite good with the stick https://www.houstonstoreonline.com/101-Astros_Chas_Mccormick_Jersey, and that his results have been rather unlucky. A Barrel rate of 13.4 percent and a Chase rate below 20 percent are top-notch marks among Astros hitters. While Castro poses little threat to would-be base stealers he’s allowed 11 swipes in 11 attempts this year his ability to frame pitches is more or less on par with Maldonado’s.Maldonado’s relationship with the pitching staff and his handling of the starting rotation cannot be quantified, but Castro himself has 10-plus years of catching experience in the big leagues. Maybe he wouldn’t be the defensive wizard that his manager believes Maldonado to be Nivaldo Rodriguez Jersey, but overall, it’s getting harder for Baker to justify the uneven split in playing time. With the A’s only two games back in the standings, the Astros’ old-school skipper would be remiss if he did not make a change.

Nick Castellanos was ejected in the Top of the 1st after some bullshit strike calls. Jesse Winker exited later after appearing to be in discomfort, his recent back issue likely the culprit. Jonathan India appeared to injure his left shoulder on a dive back into 1B and was clearly in pain for the rest of the day, though he gutted his way through this one. All that came on the same day that GM Nick Krall suggested Nick Senzel is no longer viewed as a starter and had been optioned to AAA in a surreal presser that also included a suggestion that we may not even see star prospect Jose Barrero up with the Cincinnati Red at all this year Youth Cincinnati Reds Jerseys. It’s almost like the Baseball Gods chose to laugh early at the operations of this franchise on Sunday, a day that otherwise went well enough as the Reds downed Aaron Nola and the Philadelphia Phillies to take a vital road series.India blasted a solo homer and a pair of singles in yet another Rookie of the Year-caliber game, Shogo Akiyama came on as an early substitute after the bullshit Castellanos ejection and smacked a 2-run double, and these banged-up Reds kept simply found a way offensively to get enough of a job done. They did so despite Sonny Gray not having his best of days, either. The Reds righty looked decent early, but a leadoff triple by JT Realmuto in the Bottom of the 4th ended up leading to Philadelphia’s initial run, with a bases-loaded scenario in the Bottom of the 5th plating a pair more while chasing Sonny to an early shower after just 78 pitches. Frankly, though, he pitched OK during that Phillies rally, too, with a bases loaded walk to Bryce Harper and a sac-fly the only way runs crossed the plate Pedro Borbon Jersey. The Reds bench turned to Lucas Sims first, and Sims responded by retiring 4 Phillies in his time. Michael Lorenzen followed with some nervy walks before getting his outs with zero further runs allowed, and that was greatly appreciated.Similarly appreciated was the RBI-double by Tucker Barnhart in the Top of the 8th and the 2-run dinger from Tyler Stephenson that followed, as that gave the Reds some insurance runs. What was not greatly appreciated was the trouble that Luis Cessa ran into with 2-out in the Bottom of the 8th, with an Alec Bohm RBI-double shaving the lead, bringing the tying run to the plate and chasing Cessa to the shower in favor of Mychal Givens. Givens escaped the 8th after just 2 pitches with no further damage, however, and that left them with a 7-4 lead that he made hold up thanks to effective-enough work in the Bottom of the 9th, too.A win, a series victory, and a trip back home to beat up on the Cubs up next.Tony GraphaninoSource: FanGraphsThe Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the GameIndia gutted it out all day despite being in some pretty clear discomfort, and added to his Rookie of the Year campaign with yet another 3-hit day .Stephenson, meanwhile, homered in his third consecutive game, and the only question that remains now is if these two will split too many ballots in RoY voting to screw themselves both out of the 1st place finish. Man, the Reds have some good young talent around these days, even if they’re committed to not deploying all of it this season for whatever reason.Other NotesThe Senzel news coincided with his time on rehab assignment having expired, meaning the Reds were forced to make a roster decision Dan Driessen Jersey. Instead of thinning the bullpen back to normal levels or making a decision on optionless players in the outfield, they took the ‘easy’ way out by optioning Nick to AAA. That decision in and of itself isn’t too terribly outlandish, especially with rosters due to expand enough to allow his return in two weeks Jesse Winker Jersey, but the comments made by Krall in the wake of the decision seemed to paint a pretty WTF-inducing picture. The Enquirer’s Bobby Nightengale had details.Nick Senzel has bent over backwards to play basically every single position that exists, and this club has done him absolutely zero favors despite his immense talent and the great amount of money invested in him at the point of drafting. I will never not be confused with the hows and whys of him being jerked around, let alone while Eugenio Suarez and Tyler Naquin and Shogo Akiyama are still penciled in as regulars every single day. It’s a classic case of the Reds continuing to prioritize the 40-man roster over the 26-man roster, a prototypical move of risk-averse franchises.Joey Votto went hitless again, and is still 2 hits shy of the 2,000 mark. He was just waiting for the homestand, folks.Anyway, The Reds return home to host what remains of the Chicago Cubs next, with Wade Miley on the bump for tomorrow’s series opener Cesar Geronimo Jersey. Justin Steele will toe the rubber for the Baby Bears, with first pitch set for 7:10 PM ET.Tunes.

The trade deadline has passed. Choices were made by Bill Schmidt and the Rockies front office. Whether you agree with them or not, it’s been done and what’s been done can not be undone. Although it felt like the season came to a crashing end last week, it didn’t. The Rockies still have 56 games remaining and they’ll need to win 19 of them to avoid surpassing or tying their worst season in franchise history. If you’re thinking of tuning them out for those remaining 56 games because there’s nothing to look forward to, that’s understandable but you shouldn’t. No I’m not being paid by the Rockies to say that , it’s just that there’s still some intriguing developments that’ll be happening in this final stretch Ryan McMahon Jersey. The ascension of Brendan RodgersThe continued health of Brendan Rodgers has allowed him to reach over 200 plate appearances this season, doubling the amount he had his first two years and giving us a real look at who Rodgers is as a major league player. Turns out, he’s good and has promise to be even better. Rodgers currently leads the team in OPS at .807. This is thanks to his recent home run tear he’s been on as he’s homered in four of his last seven games. Since July 21st, he’s also hitting .324 with five of his twelve hits being extra base hits. This is a great sight to see especially since eight of the nine games in that stretch have been on the road where the Rockies hit a league worst .212. In fact, Rodgers is just one of two players on the roster who have been splits on the road. From what he’s shown this season, it seems clear Rodgers is an everyday player. At the least, he deserves to be treated like one for the remainder of the year. It helps that it seems he’s settling in well at the two spot in the lineup hitting .281 there. These next two months will tell us a lot more about not just who Rodgers is but who he could be in the future. Continued improvement from the rotationBesides not moving Trevor Story, the biggest franchise development to happen this season has been the emergence of what has mostly been an elite starting rotation. Last season the starters combined for a 4.83 ERA but this season when fully healthy the rotation holds a combined 3.97 ERA. As we know they’ve been led by first time All-Star Germán Márquez but it’s really been a group effort that’s kept this team competitive on a nightly basis. Jon Gray and Austin Gomber are also enjoying career years. Really the entire rotation, one through five, seem to have all become masters of pitching at Coors Field. Rockies fans have been waiting decades for a rotation to figure that out.Going forward, the rotation looks to be the centerpiece of the club for at least the near future, especially if Gray re-signs like he wants to. Now we just need to know that what they’ve done since about May, is legitimate. A solid and healthy August and September from everyone at home AND on the road would make it abundantly clear to all that these guys are the real deal and deserve the “retool” that the front office seems to be going for. Any regression from the rotation will seriously hurt the front office’s case for the “retool.” Call-up seasonFor the bottom half of the league, August and September are some of the most grueling months of baseball to bare. The teams are no longer in contention, some have just been stripped for parts and sold off to the highest bidder and the remaining players just want to round out their numbers and get to the offseason. But if there’s one thing that glimmers through these final dog days it’s September call-ups. Unfortunately, under the new rules laid out back in 2019, rosters can only expand to a maximum and minimum of 28 players, instead of the previous maximum of 40, on September 1st. This will make things especially tough for the Rockies who decided not to move any of their veterans besides Mychal Givens at the deadline. This potential roster crunch will make each roster spot even more valuable down the stretch. As recently as June, the Rockies had given the impression they’d like to get looks at at least three prospects who’ve yet to make their debuts; Ryan Rolison, who’s still working his way back from having his appendix removed in June Brendan Rodgers Jersey, Colton Welker, who was suspended 80 games for testing positive of a banned substance and will return in a few days and Ryan Vilade who’s slashing .282/.344/.391 at Triple-A Albuquerque. Also working their way into the conversation for a call-up would be Taylor Motter and Alan Trejo . That’s at least four players, five if Rolison is deemed ready, that have very strong cases for a call-up sometime between now and the end of the season. Not to mention, the eventual return and reinstatement of Peter Lambert from the IL. There’s also Joshua Fuentes, does he work his way back? This type of roster crunch is going to happen to just about every team. DFA’s and options like we saw with Fuentes could be flying left and right. Could guys like Chi Chi González or Jhoulys Chacín be candidates?Teams might instead opt to shut players down that final month Bret Boswell Jersey. Those who’ve had lingering injuries like Chris Owings and even the unhappy Trevor Story could be shelved. If you remember last season, Nolan Arenado was shut down two weeks early. Teams might also choose to shut down or skip starts for important arms that’ll be counted on for years to come like Germán Márquez. The Rockies will have to do some roster shuffling but from a fan perspective it’s fresh intrigue to possibly see someone like Taylor Motter who’s been shredding in Triple-A or Ryan Vilade and Ryan Rolison who’ve been talked about for years https://www.coloradofanstore.com/52-Rockies_Sam_Hilliard_Jersey, finally get their shot.Trevor Story non-trade tells us a lot about state of Rockies | The Denver Post Patrick Saunders sounds off with his thoughts on the decision to hold onto Trevor Story through the deadline. While it feels like interim-GM Bill Schmidt is the favorite for the job this offseason, he brings up the interesting note that he’s heard from some around the league that they believe Schmidt has the right “temperament” and that owner Dick Monfort would just need to allow Schmidt to assemble the right front office team. After the deadline, Schmidt did say team president Greg Feasel and Monfort allowed him to make the call. Even if Schmidt has autonomy, fans don’t seem to be confident about his judgment. Colorado Rockies prospects: Slugging Taylor Motter accomplishing goal in Albuquerque | RoxPileTaylor Motter has been one of the hottest players in all of Triple-A. In July, the 31-year-old smashed 15 home runs and drove in 35 runs. Motter tells RoxPile that he wanted to make it a tough decision for the Rockies front office on what to do with him. As I mentioned above, he’s definitely forced his way into the conversation for a call-up. On the farmTriple-A: Albuquerque Isotopes 6, Salt Lake Bees 3 The Isotopes score five runs in the bottom of the sixth to power past Salt Lake in the first game of a two game double header. Ryan Vilade, Taylor Motter, Wynton Bernard all recorded multi-hit games but it was catcher Dustin Garneau who stole the spotlight. The 33-year-old hit a double and a grand slam to put his team ahead. Yency Almonte and Robert Stephenson both made rehab appearances. Stephenson started the game and gave up two hits and a walk for two runs in his one inning of work. Almonte threw a hitless second inning but did give up a walk. Albuquerque Isotopes 4, Salt Lake Bees 3 The Isotopes again snuck out a win in the final innings C.J. Cron Jersey. They scored two runs in each of the final two innings. Alan Trejo went 2-for-3 but it was Greg Bird and once again Taylor Motter who got the big timely RBI’s. Starting pitcher Frank Duncan nearly went the seven inning distance but still finished with just two runs given up in six innings allowing four hits and one walk. Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies 6, Hartford Yard Goats 5Despite scoring five runs in the first inning, the Yard Goats could not muster enough offense to overcome the Rumble Ponies. Those five runs in the first were thanks to a grand slam by second baseman and clean-up hitter https://www.coloradofanstore.com/82-Rockies_Cj_Cron_Jersey, Coco Montes. Catcher Max George and outfielder Matt Hearn each recorded multi-hit games. Starter Nate Harris went just 4 1⁄3 innings and allowed six runs on eleven hits. High-A: Vancouver Canadians 6, Spokane Indians 3The Indians could not generate enough offense against the Canadians pitching staff, recording just four total hits. Two of the hits were home runs by both Niko Decolati and AJ Lewis in the bottom of the fifth. Starter Chris McMahon went 6 1⁄3 innings with three runs allowed and six strikeouts. Low-A: Lake Elsinore Storm 11, Fresno Grizzlies 3The Grizzlies were out-slugged by Lake Elsinore who’s six extra base hits led to a resounding win over Fresno. Starter Anderson Amarista had a rough outing, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits and five walks in 5 1⁄3 innings. Zac Veen went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base, his 28th of the season. Eddy Diaz also went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base, his 32nd of the year. The Chicago White Sox came into St. Petersburg ready to win another series. Tonight was a great start to accomplish that goal against the AL-East-leading Tampa Bay Rays. Lucas Giolito remains dominant, Tim Anderson is that guy, and the bullpen continues to work through its struggles but showed up after the Sox rallied Jack Mcdowell Jersey. The StartersLucas Giolito was just masterful! He continues to pitch well at The Trop, including even his 2018 season. His quality start entailed seven innings of two-run baseball, three hits, and ZERO walks. He struck out eight, and that slider, as I keep saying, is becoming an absolute weapon Bobby Jenks Jersey. Here is how Giolito’s 90 pitches break down:Baseball Savant Michael Wacha had it, but also didn’t have it tonight. It was a peculiar outing. The Sox came out hot and recorded five hits through two innings, but only one run was scored. Through five innings, Wacha gave up nine hits and four runs; however, he did strike out nine. His 100 pitches can be summarized below:Baseball Savant Pressure PlayAustin Meadows was first-pitch swinging in a 7.92 LI play that resulted in a two-run single in the eighth inning.Pressure CookerAfter the Sox failed to score in the top of the 10th, Liam Hendriks came in for the bottom half. With one out and a runner on third, Liam locked down the hold at 4.00 pLI.Top PlayIntentionally walking the bases loaded in a one-run game to avoid Nelson Cruz and face Austin Meadows with two outs, Aaron Bummer threw a pitch right down the middle Aaron Bummer Jersey, and Meadows took it to center field and drove in the tying and go-ahead runs for a 5-4 Rays score in the eighth inning. Top PerformerTim Anderson is THAT guy!! His .658 WPA willed this win, and I can’t wait to see this in the postseason!SmackdownHardest hit: Ji-Man Choi’s 105.6 mph solo home run in the second just bested José Abreu’s third inning 105.5 mph single, but Pito bested him a different way. After striking out in the seventh, Pito gave some advice to Eloy Jiménez, who crushed a slider for a single at 109.4 mph. Weakest contact: César Hernández strikes again a 70.1 mph ground out in the fourth, which is double his usual weakest contact exit velocity. Brian Goodwin was not happy, so he notched a 44.3 mph ground out in the eighth.Luckiest hit: Wander Franco’s infield single against Bummer in the eighth had only a 11% chance to be a hit, and it was.Toughest out: Kevin Kiermaier’s line out in the eighth had an attached .580 xBA.Longest hit: Yoán Moncada’s two-run, dead-center blast in the fifth traveled 423 feet!YoYo goes yard!
